Myths of Menopause

Sure, there will be changes but there’s nothing to be afraid of just things to notice. Here are a few ‘myths’ and by myth I mean this – nothing is a given; there are solutions!

  • Myth #1: It’s the beginning of the end.
Debunking THAT particular myth is my main motivation of creating www.MenopauseIsHot. Menopause is just another phase of your life to explore and enjoy. At at this particular point in your life, you have more of yourself to give – more wisdom, more love, more resources – this can be the BEST time of your life!
  • Myth #2: I’ll put on weight.
The truth is that many women do gain some weight in perimenopause and menopause, perhaps as much as 10 pounds, but it isn’t inevitable. Changing your diet to accommodate the changes in your body and increasing exercising will help you to maintain your weight.

  • Myth #3: I won’t feel sexy.
You can absolutely feel and be sexy and maintain a great sex life during and after menopause. Okay, hormonal changes may produce physical changes, such as vaginal dryness or less desire, but these days there are solutions. The truth is just desiring to keep the sex and sexiness alive is one of the most important parts!

  • Myth #4: I’ll become cranky.
Moodiness is mostly about your changing hormones and chemical reactions in the brain. Not everyone suffers from mood swings and, even if you do, there is support via HRT and other treatments. And as I’ve mentioned in other posts, this is the opportunity to heal some old hurts and issues which may dramatically minimize the ‘crankiness’.

  • Myth #5: My menopause will start when I’m 50.
Actually, it can start at any time in your 40s (and even earlier) with the perimenopause. This is when you may find yourself skipping the occasional period and it can last from two to eight years! Only when you’ve missed your period for 12 consecutive months can menopause be said to have arrived.
  • Just keep remembering that this is a stage of your life that is much bigger than some physical symptoms. This is a stage of your life that can bring you great joy and peace so EMBRACE IT!
