Menopause and Antioxidants

Antioxidants, which are specific vitamins and minerals, help minimize the cell damage of those darn ‘free radicals’. Ahhh, so much to learn ;)

Antioxidants are found abundantly in fresh fruits and vegetables!

Free radicals are simply highly reactive, unstable molecules that have lost one electron and are desperately seeking a replacement. This process in the body results in damage to all sorts of things. While free radicals are a normal aspect of metabolism, they can increase with exposure to tobacco smoke, pollution, insecticides, too much sun, and yes, aging.

Antioxidants help our body do it’s natural job of keeping all of this in balance. There are tons of antioxidants in FRESH fruits and vegetables, especially the brightly colored ones and organically grown ones that are picked and eaten when ripe (local produce is great for this reason). Get those five servings in each day and you’ll be in great shape on this! There are also supplements you can take to help increase your antioxidants – check at your local health food store.
